Final Fantasy XIII will put the PS3 over 5 million units sold in Japan. Will NSMBWii put the Wii over 10 million units sold in Japan?

FF13 won't push PS3 over 5 million, FF13 liftime sales in Japan are predicted to be 1.5-1.8 million, by Famitsu and Media create

Lets be generous and say 20% of FF13 buyers will purchase a PS3, that means FF13 will drive 300-360K PS3 sales basically FF13 would only put it above 4 million in Japan

And yet by the time GT5 comes out in March, the PS3 will have sold over 5 million units there.  There has to be a game that is primarily responsible for that.

Not necessarily, in fact considering PS3 sales are dropping into the mid 20K's a week in Japan, that means after the holidays, it probably will sell less than 300K in the first few weeks of the new year, it could very likely be below 5 million when GT5 launches

Actually, it's still in the high 20's, and it has beaten the Wii 2 out of 3 weeks since Wii Fit + came out including the latest one.

Yeah, by like under a thousand, not really all that much, in fact a statistical tie considering the numbers aren't perfect, not to mention its going to fall a bit more before it settles, according to ioi

Yeah, well Wii will fall a bit before Mario Wii comes out.  And maybe hardware sales won't be pushed that much by Mario Wii because the Japanese have already bought Wiis for Mario games like Galaxy and Kart.

There hasn't been a new FF released in Japan in 4 years.

ROFL, every FF fan knows that PS3 is getting FF13 in Japan, so they probably already own it in anticipation, not to mention to get the other JRPG's On the other hand, there hasn't been a 2D mario in over a decade on a console, and the 3D and 2D Mario fanbases aren't the same, compare NSMB DS to Galaxy, and see the huge difference, and Mario Kart isn't a platformer, so no, NSMB has much more hardware pushing potential than FF13, which is being predicted to sell quite poorly for an FF game according to Famitsu and MC

Yeah, they knew FF was on the way, but they also knew PS3 would get some price cuts eventually, so why not buy it closer to the release of the game?  Also, there haven't been that many jrpgs on PS3 to cause the FF fans to have to buy one because Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant were only on 360.  And if they are basing those projections in part on how jrpgs have done on 360 that's a totally erroneus projection.
