The Wii has plenty of core games from Nintendo and their second partys that weren't originally designed for the GameCube.

Super Mario Galaxy (with a sequel on the way) - New Super Mario Bros Wii - Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Bros Brawl - Disaster Day of Crisis - Wario Land: The Shake Dimension
PunchOut! - Excite Truck

Just because Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess & Mario Party 8 started life as GC projects doesn't make them any less valid as proper core wii titles. Seem's like Wii has had plenty of core support from Nintendo to me. Remember they ressurected the Punchout! and Excite franchises on Wii. Don't forget Metroid and Zelda both have games designed from the ground up for Wii coming in 2010-11 and a new Pikmin is in development too. And I'm sure Mario Party 9 will be here soon enough. Oh and there's a little something called Sin & Punishment 2 as well. Core gaming is in great health on Wii. If you doon't think so then either your tastes have changed or you don't 'get' the console.
