This is the same sort of problem people had with their PS2. Using their PS2s to watch DVD movies instead of just getting a cheap standalone DVD player, which resulted in lots of people wearing out the PS2 laser and having to pay sony to replace the drive. I stopped using my PS2 to play DVDs after I heard about these issues. I use it strictly for gaming because of that. |
Well to get a Blu-ray player to match tha capabilities of the PS3 you would need to shell out about $300-$350. And thats not cheap. Plus I have over 200 blu-ray movies and 67 blu-ray games, and my PS3 drive is working fine. So this is not an issue for the PS3

Just because you haven't run into any problems doesn't mean that the issue doesn't exist. That's like me saying disk read errors are not a common issue with the PS2 just because mine hasn't had any yet. Lots of people have had problems with their PS3's blu-ray drive to the point that there is a petiton out requesting that Sony extend the blu-ray drive warranty to 3 years. http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?PS3BRDW3 1080p blu-ray players can be bought for like $150. Maybe even less these days.

Blu-ray players are as cheap as $100, but that doesnt mean it is worth buying them especially since you have one of the best blu-ray players on the market. Not to mention that they wont have half the features the PS3 has so it a really big downgrade.
