It's clear that it's a rare few people who will pay one red cent more than they have to for a product. This donation style business model can work, you just have to set a floor price that covers your variable costs.
How severely would it have impacted the number of downloads if 2D Boy had set a minimum price of $1.00? I'd bet that their unit sales would decline less than 10% but their revenues would go up about 50%.
