I think the whole discussion is missing the point of the OP.

Its not which platform is the better.

Everyone knows that PCs have much more Power and this is obvious because you cant upgrade the CPU/GPU or RAM (ok N64 did this once).

The thing is that the PCs are not as far ahead as they used to be. Previos Generations the PCs were from the beginning minimum 1 Generation ahead. They had 10times or 100times more power. The Graphics were so much better.

But thats over until now the PC had not released a game which make Uncharted 2 look like its last Gen. Ofcourse the Graphic is better but the point is in former Generations this Topic wasnever discused it. Now the people talk about it and the PC Fraction fights wich was never neccessary before. The question is how long will it take to make Console Games look so outdated as the PC made the PS2 look like in 2004. Or the PS1 in 1998.

That just not happend until now. I always had the feeling really quick last Gen or the Gen before that the Graphi sux. But now I dont have the feeling. Because the PC has not shown Games which would make the PS3 or 360 Games look bad.

The thing is that Graphics are just some years away of beeing so good that you cant see a difference to reality. And in the Next gen the PC will need even more Time to make the PS4 look outdated. And the PS5 will be so good that the PC cant make it look outdated because its impossible.

The Consoles have some Advantages that will result in a Price which is always lower then PC. First you can achieve same Graphics with weaker Hardware because you can optemise it on one HArdware Configuration second the Resources of the System are not used by a Power Hungry Operating System. SO you dont need as much Ram as PCs so Consoles will always be cheaper because the Hardware you need to achiev the same result an be weaker much weaker.


I hope the PC gaming will be strong in Future because a lot of trends from the PC came to Consoles which would have never developed if the PC Gaming hasn`t existed.

I think in 10-15 years there will be a dramatic change in the gaming industry because the Graphics race is over. Maybe Consoles wont exist or maybe Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo will sell a Preconfigured Hardware.

Its hard to imagine what will happen if the Graphics Race is over. Stronger Hardware isnt needed anymore. Or maybe they wont sell Graphicscards they will sell PhysicsCards which Emulate the Objects in a game or KI Cards which are for the Intelligence of the Game or something like that.

The nearer we come to the End of the Graphic Evolution the smaller will be the difference between Consoles and PCs.

In the End all technology will merge. And we wont notice the technology as a Piece of Hardware everything will be integrated we wont see it anymore as a System.
