I can't believe people really think Nintendo cut the price, because of the PS3.Nintendo is in is own league.

Yeah. The Wii sales went in a slump long before even the rumors of a Slim and pricecut started to appear.

That's true, but a cheaper PS3 would deepen that slump especially in Japan where at its old price PS3 had already demonstrated it could give Wii a run for its money, so they had to cut the price.

you fail on so many levels, it is just hard to read this.

Nintendo cut the price, because demand slowed down after 3 (!!!) years at the same price. The price-cut was planned a long time ago, way before the PS3 slim happened. Nintendo is now again in perfect position for this holiday season.

PS3 did NO damage to the wii. Wii sales declined 3.28 % the week after sonys price-cut. That is so low, that easily fits in this error-margin. Do you really think Big N was worried about anything?

Why did the demand slow?  Because Nintendo's offerings weren't meeting the desires of most gamers.  Was there a system that was offering more to gamers during that time period?  Well, if you go back to February through the first of April, you'll see that for twelve straight weeks the PS3 outsold the Wii in Japan.

It took Monster Hunter 3 and Wii Sports Resort to bring Wii sales back up to par.  And those had started to decline again prior to the launch of PS3 Slim.  The PS3 Slim selling 550,000 in its first week was something that I suspect Nintendo felt that they had to do something about, so in my opinion that is why they dropped the price.  If they hadn't dropped the price the PS3 Slim would still be coming out on top of the Wii in worldwide sales up to the latest week, and even with the price cut and Wii Fit + in Japan, the Wii was still beaten in Japan two  weeks ago and barely managed to eek out a victory over the PS3 there last week.
