PS3 is up by around 5% for the week compared to Xbox 360 last year. This difference is completely caused by Japan, in the Americas and Others it is actually slightly lower. This makes it is doubtful for PS3 to outperform Xbox 360's sales from 2008 in those areas, especially in the US where it will see a lot more competition from Xbox 360 this year than it did from PS3 last year. If PS3 sells about equal in Others (2,4 million) and maybe 20-25% less in the Americas (2,3-2,5 million) it will probably get close to Xbox 360's numbers when Japan is included.
As for Xbox 360, I'd rather look at its sales from earlier years. It is slightly lower in the US for this week compared to last year. Adding the increased competition from PS3 to this information it most likely will sell a less than last year, probably also close to 2,5 million. It is clearly down in Others year over year when it sold 2,4 million, but it is above its 2007 numbers when it sold 1,15 million. I would expect a considerable drop from last year, probably close to 1,5 million for the remainder of the year. Japanese sales will be negligible, so its total sales should be close to 4 million for the rest of the year.
