I don't wanna offend this but I'm throwing it out there.
Understanding the story/world of Half-Life and Gordon's character actually takes intelligence and observation skills. Think of it like understanding Wuthering Heights or Hamlet and what they are all about too.
Basically to lay it out on the table, MGS4, Uncharted, Tomb Raider, JRPGS, etc. = comics (and not the Watchmen kind either), HL = a well written novel.
