In the US, Microsoft has so far sold 2,955,589 XBox 360s, while Sony has sold 2,324,342 PS3s (from 2008-12-27 to 2009-10-10).
There are 11 weeks left in the year. Sony would have to sell 631,247 more PS3s than 360s, which works out to be about 57,400 more per week.
Given that sales increase during the holiday season, I would expect the current weekly gap to widen. If that happens, it is quite plausible that Sony will outsell Microsoft for the calendar year.
