I agree with everything you say here except for the "not that great alone" part.

Shure, the multiplayer is a selling feature for the game but that's because it's what sets it apart from the previous mario games, therefore that's what they focus on in the advertising and trailers.

But mark my word, it's a Mario sidescroller, they would not allow it out the door if it wasn't also a fantastic game to play single player as well.

I was originally dubious of this, but recent media has changed my mind.

From what I understand, the Super Guide won't even be accessible from multiplayer, so that tells you Nintendo is expecting a lot of people to play it alone. I still wish the multiplayer had online, but I no longer suspect that the single player will suffer due to a local multi focus.

Saying that NSMBW should be on DS is like saying that Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid have no place on PSP...
