This does not particularly surprise me (which is to say it surprises me not at all) but I'd love to know which passages you refer to... at some point.

Matthew 15:11 is the specfic line 'Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”' It doesn't make a lot of sense with the King James translation, but when you read all of Matthew 15 it becomes pretty clear. The entire chapter has to deal with dis-obeying the Jesus' followers dis-obeying the dietary laws. There are further implications of course, but that is something for a religious debate topic specifically.

Edit: Stupid online bible. Found a better quote. Matthew 15:16-19 '16 So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.
