WoW!!  Brain Age at only "2" titles?  $CHA CHING!!$!!  Games like a school test and sold that much.  Bet it cost near nothing to make...  You fogot to add the NEW and Unusual astablished franchise  "Wii Fit" 24.7mil and counting...

Well, Wii Fit counts as the "Wii Series". I could split up a few series that are really different from their franchise.

Mario Platformers - 35.42 million (4 games)

Mario Kart - 33.53 million (2 games)

Wii unbundled Fitness series (that's Wii Fit, Wii Fit + and Wii Sports Resort) - 27.61 million (3 games).

Mario Sports - 17.5 million (6 games)

What do people believe will be the best selling franchises of the generation? 1. and 2. are pretty much obvious (Mario & "Wii Series), but what about the rest? If we split up the Wii and Mario series, then it will pretty much be like this:

First place competition:

1. Pokemon (currently at ~ 43 million. Certain to sell at least 60 million, due to Pokemon HS/GG and the fact that more spinoffs are likely)

2. Mario Platformers (currently at 35.4 million. The currently on the market titles should sell ~ 45 million. Then there's NSMB Wii, as well as Super Mario Galaxy 2. There's also likely to be more titles, so 60 million is pretty much a sure-shot.

3. Wii unbundled Fitness Series (Wii Fit, Wii Fit +, Wii Sports Resort, and any upcoming equal title. At 27.61 million).  The currently released titles should sell ~ 50 million easily (30 + 10 + 10), and could go as high as 60 million (30 + 15 + 15) - and some might even argue even higher. If more equally large titles are released, this is a competitor for first.

4. Call of Duty (currently at ~ 28 million. Hard to tell for this franchise, really.)

5. Mario Kart (currently at ~ 34 million. Should finish at 50-65 million, as a new title is rather unlikely.

Sixth place competition:

6. Grand Theft Auto - currently at ~ 23 million. The second best selling franchise last generation is a force to be reckoned with, and its sales depend a lot upon the number of future releases. Even 2 more major releases are unlikely to put it into a battle for the top.

7. Sonic - Currently at 24 million, Sonic is releasing Mario & Sonic at the Olympics in just a few months. This alone should boost the series to 34 million, and due to the ever-increasing amount of Sonic titles releasing, it should sell 50 million even without any more assistance from Mario.

8. Guitar Hero - currently at ~ 29 million, but the series have somewhat worn off, and there's little chance it will go far beyond 50 million.

9. Brain Age - Currently at 32 million. This series should finish at 40-45 million unless a new title in the series is released.

There's really little else that can truly manage to take out any of these franchises (well, Guitar Hero and Brain Age might fall below something)
