MS has a console for the short run, PS3 is for the long run, with a longer life-cycle.  MS are loosing now with a far cheaper console(the arcade costs 179 euro) and the gap continue to drop.  it was 8.2, 8.3M before the SLIM, now is 7.39M, in just 5 weeks!  MS sold 13.3M 360 in 2 years, Sony sold 19.1M PS3 in 2 years.  MS sold 23.76M 360 in 3 years, Sony already sold more than 25M, and they will do their 3rd year by 23th March 2010 in Europe     Sony sold with a higher average weekly worldwide selling-rate since both 360 and PS3 launched, and now PS3 is slapping the 360 in the face.  PS3 is very strong in all territory, while 360 slowing down everywhere, and dieing in Japan.  Famitsu said PS2 selling more than 360 in Japan now.  The only reason why MS sold more as total user-base is that 360 launched 1 year before in America and Japan, and nearly 1 year and half before in Europe.   Some people seem to forget this little detail.

No doubt sony is in a great place now.  I am thrilled with their success but dont be so quick to jump on the PS3 second place band wagon.

What is happening now is the same type of thing that happened in 07 when Sony dropped the price the 1st time.  I predicted along with many others for the ps3 to pass the 360 by summer 09.  Guess what happened the gap got even bigger.  I had no clue MS was as serious as they were about not losing this gen to sony.  The multiple price drops in europe shocked me, that along with the NA one allowed for MS to dominate the holiday and quickly eclipse all the lead the ps3 attained that year in matter of a few months.

Sound familiar?  The 360 did in 08 what the ps3 is doing now.

The gen has been like  pendulum swinging in favor of one console then the other.  Its sony turn but MS will answer back and they have the money to do so.  If you think MS will just take this lying down you are wrong.  Whether is another price cut/remodeling along with NATAL(dont think NATAL will be that huge) some how MS will bring at very least balance back to the console wars.

by the way since the ps3 launched.  The 360 has outsold it by 2m.   {ps3 launch-now [360:27m] [ps3:25m]}~this gap will probably disappear but not the 7m one.  Not by the time this gen is over anyways.

No, it's not the same situation mate, and cannot be.

In the 2008 Holiday season, PS3 was to expensive for the mass, and Bluray still a niche market, while 360 very cheap in comparison.  PS3 price was not good for the mass, 360 price was good for the mass.

Now, PS3 price better for the mass, 360 price very good for the mass, lower than PS3.   This is the main reason, the main point. The price.

PS3 is now affordable by the mass,  + the Bluray is now the new trend and it will establish as the MAINSTREAM in 2010.   you may get now all in a box at 299$.
