Yes, you are correct.
Also the PS3 was designed to last much longer specs wise, geared towards a long term future, with Blu-Ray capacity, default harddrive, Cell processor (which consumers more and more seem to understand with games like Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, etc), built-in WiFi, etc.
Technology-wise in the end I expect the PS3 with its exclusives and capabilities to look like a gen ahead of the XBox 360, just like the 360 already looks to be a gen ahead of the Wii technology.
Why do analysts say Blu-Ray adoption is currently outpacing the adoption of DVD? This can only be said by aligning launches, the same was done for comparing DVD and VHS launches. Similarly PS3 adoption despite its higher entry pricing is significantly outpacing 360 adoption taking equal timeframes.
