I am really surprised how many people still think the PS3 has a prayer of catching the 360.. I mean I know there tends to be a Sony love fest at this site but come on people, use a little common sense..
Let's put this in perspective. 360 currently has a 7.3 million lead roughly.. Even if the Xbox 360 never sold a SINGLE CONSOLE from this point on, it could realistically still take at least another year to catch it. Now lets be extremely generous here and say the PS3 was to outsell the Xbox 360 by a whopping 500k every single month (which is highly unlikely considering the 360 outsells the PS3 on a monthly basis more than the other way around), it would take about a year and a half to catch the 360.
And then what happens if 360 starts outselling the PS3 in monthly sales again (which is probably what will happen at some point)? Then PS3 has even MORE ground to make up with more time shaved off its lifespan to the task gets more and more difficult. PS3 will close some of the gap, there's little doubt of this. But best case scenario for the PS3, it inches towards a virtual tie with the Xbox 360 or with a gap similar to the Gamecube-Xbox gap of 3 million. Too many stars have to be aligned for Sony to pull out this come back. Games like FFXIII and God of War III need to be freakin bombshells and PS3 needs to outsell 360 almost every single week from here on out, and by a pretty significant amount. But even then it's quite a long shot...
Face it, a console coming out the gate at $600, and Sony coupling this with arrogant statements like "We could launch the PS3 with no games and people would still buy it," deserves nothing more than a humbling 3rd place finish IMO.
If you enjoy PS3, that's cool. It has a lot of great games, and I'm not trying to take away from that. Hell, my favorite console last gen was a 3rd place console (Gamecube). What gets to me though is these hardcore Sony fans acting all high and mighty and claiming the PS3 is going to miraculously kick the Wii and 360's ass from here on out. It's just unrealistic.
