Please don't kill me, but I DO think that critics have a point. It's true that VGChartz makes its own estimates, based on samples, and they are not too far off. After all, I visit this page every day and enjoy reading and discussing the latest sales numbers.
But where would VGChartz be without the NPD data? VGChartz can only get away with being somewhat inaccurate because they know they'll be able to correct their numbers by the end of the month. That IS unfair. NPD has to invest more money, manpower and time to get the most accurate data they can; VGChartz just have to make it to the next "NPD checkpoint".
I second most of what you said, John Lucas. But VGChartz' business model is problematic.
