A lower price will just about always make a difference, assuming the price isn't being dropped on a product that is either on the verge of being discontinued due to consumer indifference, or being replaced. And that's regardless of economic conditions although lower prices in tougher economic times will naturally be received positively every single time.
I'm really not sure why so many people have been saying otherwise. It's probably coming mostly from those were were or still are of the notion that price doesn't mean anything for the Wii, followed quickly by a reference to "Blue Ocean Strategy!"
Nintendo will sell a lot of consoles at $199 (bigger sub $200 market), and will likely sell even more to a broader audience when it drops to or under $149.
