It went from affordable to more affordable, where the PS3 went from not-affordable to affordable so the pent up demand was a different situation. Also, HDTV penetration has drastically increased since the beginning of the generation - which may have an affect.
I'm almost willing to predict Nintendo will release their next console around 2011 - a moderately powerful HD console, while Sony and Microsoft will do theirs the same weekend in 2012.
