In bold, that's a bit flawed, as the DSi can use physical media AND digital media. Nintendo made the DSi right, but Sony's jump to the PSPgo was a mistake in all-digital media. Even though you gave an example above about the next "DS" system could all together go for digital media...it's getting cheaper for flashcards to be produced and sold. The UMD was a flop in this sense because Sony tried to set another standard like Blu-Ray (don't get me wrong, I have Blu-Ray on my laptop and it's good with the NVIDIA card on it, 9600M GT with PureVideo HD, and my DVDs and my 'little' collection of Blu-Ray DVDs), but in this case UMD failed in media usages (everyone should know that). In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the next "DS" system that Nintendo makes will use GB flashcards (going by ROMs in size, some games barely go over 150 MB). |
And that's where the PSP is now. DSi is more or less Nintendo making the DS more like the iPhone and PSP.
The PSP Go is the next step into that direction. Don't be surprised if one of their next handhelds is all digital media.
