the real reason is that american government provided education sucks and most of these children calling the Wii a gimmick couldn't even properly define it with out looking it up.
And for the nintendo fanboys out there... you should look up the definition for gimmick also, because the wiimote is definitely a gimmick.
other gimmicks include, but are not limited to... blu ray, xbox live, cell processing, halo 3, wii sports, xbox coming packaged with component cables, hdmi ports, backward compatability, vc, xbla, psn, usb ports, wifi, sixaxis, and wii fit.
