Question about Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

So this takes place after Kingdom Hearts 2? I thought it was shoved somewhere in the middle.

It takes place between KH and KH2, and at the same time as Chain of Memories (since you play as a different character).

I just read the wikipedia entry, and the story there doesn't seem to signify anything about this game yet. The only thing I've figured is that Roxas is the character Sora from the first game, and he has amnesia now(what an original concept ). Can someone explain to me what happened to lead to him joining the organization he's in?

No he's not.  He's connected to Sora, but definitely not Sora.  I won't spoil why, but you find out wo he is in KH2.

So is it better for me to understand who he is going into this game, or should I play this in the dark and read up or play KH2 after?
