No, you just sound pretentious.

That would be the same as someone saying that you are not a true fan if FF1 isn't your favourite.

For the record, I started on FF1 on NES, I even had two cartridges so I could have two saves. I also got Legend 1-3, Final Fantasy Adventure, and Mystic Quest even though they weren't true FF games (I didn't know it at the time, it was before the Internet was used by anyone normal); I probably played FFL2 30 times or something (it was one of my favourite games of the time. I also got every FF title when they were release. By your logic, I am among the most qualified person to make the choice. I still consider FF8 to be the best. I can tell you that the series came A LONG way in 10 years, much further than it did during the second 10 years.
