Whats also patently obvious is that the japanese gamer and japanese rpg is becoming increasingly out of sync with the rest of the world. Only FFXIII can save them now in the west.

they don't care being out of sync with the rest of the world, just like they don't care about iphone and FPS games.

the world doesn't always have to follow the trends in America.

+1 if everyone was a follower then the world would be without choices.  They are not the ones out of sync, it is the rest of the world (gaming wise) that are trying to "emulate" their greatest gift to gaming the RPG.  Those WRPG everyone praises only came about because of the ingenuity of the Great gaming masters of the far East.

WRPGs' lineage comes more directly from CRPGs, which have had more "role playing" than any of the so called JRPGs have ever had - i.e. Baldur's Gate, etc.
