Sony is a competitor, if they are profiting, IT HELPS THE INDUSTRY. You just answered your own question. Besides, more consoles in homes ALSO helps the industry... |
It helps the industry do what?
make more money for the (third party) developers?
Not really, multi-releases make this point invalid. Any software can be sold on other systems. The PS3 isn't the only console in the market. Its HD counterpart can do its job as well. The wii even has cheaper development costs.
the big word of innovation?
Not really, wii did the 'wand' first, and Natal can even be bigger (we'll see how this pans out - but it certainly can't be ignored).
Graphics?
Not really, for the price of a PS3 you can get a more powerful PC/laptop, let alone its hd console rival. And the wii proves most gamers don't care that much anyway. If they did, it wouldn't be in first place.
Blue-ray (you say)?
Fun games or their gameplay have nothing to do with storage. The XBOX360 and wii proves that with a fine line-up of games. You know Sony put Blue-ray in to win the storage struggle with HD-DVD.
Not to forget: More space to fill, more development money. The costs to gamesmaking are already very (or too) high.
Online perhaps?
The Xbox can do the same. Better perhaps but you're going to have to pay for it - i fear. The wii's one id free and isn't much worse.
In an final point:
You're attaching your own emotions to the PS3 and it's fate. You clearly see Sony as the industry. That is your right. But no console is the industry, nor does its existence make it so.
Even if Sony drops out (not gonna happen off course), then its studios- and marketingspending would be spend by the competition, mainly micrsoft. The industry would stay the same size and the people who work in it, would still work in it (Sony would sell these parts off).
It helps Sony, not the industry. When you have two console who do the same, then one can be largely missed. That's the problem for the HD twins.
(And yes, the wii has its own problems - for the HD fanboys- so don't bother commenting about that)
In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.
