First I just want to wish you good luck. I hope you find it easier to track one down than I did last Christmas.
About the pointer it will be slightly off. It doesn't aim the way a light gun aims, but you'll fall in love with the "accurate" controls anyways. If it really bothers you, you can ditch the sensor and put two light/infrared sources on the sides of your tv and that should help. I noticed it at first also, but after using it I can honestly say I don't think it matters.
About the latency/lag, I haven't noticed any of that.
