I'm not sure what your gripes are with the review? It's not like they pointed out flaw after flaw, it was an extremely positive review. I actually didn't see the 9 on my first read through and thought after reading it that it sounded like something in the 8.5-9 range. I hadn't really read Edge reviews before so I just assumed they didn't give numbers until someone said 9 and I went back and looked and saw it. I don't know what score they gave Killzone 2 and Bioshock but I could probably give you a pretty long list of flaws for either of those so that they don't deserve a 9 (actually, I think I gave Bioshock a 9 but that was because it just was a really good game despite its flaws). |
The scoring system Edge uses is really quite perplexing. Its meant to be strict, hence why its perfectly understandable why games like Killzone 2 gets a 7 and CoD: WaW gets a 6, but when Halo 3 manages to get a 10 I scratch my head. Not saying Halo 3 is a bad game (not my cup of tea), but if Edge stuck to the conventional scoring system they use then it should have gotten a lower score.
I've comlpetely lost faith in the scores. I get the feeling they have completely seperate people scoring games (fine) but they don't seem to have a consensus on how to score those games (not so good). The actual writing and the features that Edge have are usually quite good though, so its usually best to read the body of the review and ignore the final score I've found.
