As much as I would want to stay out of it, Israel and the ME is a way to understand what is going on in the ME. A window of intelligence so to speak. We need them now if Iran tries to establish itself as the USSR of the ME - this is plausible since Iraq was essentially what kept Iran from influencing the ME in general. Iran wants to be Persia again.
