IDC indicates that Apple is now the most popular company in Asia. Despite a market share of only 1.6 percent of personal computers in the second quarter of this year, the company has now overtaken the Toyota among the companies that are considered most popular.

- Even though Apple dosen't have a large presence in Asia, it is incredibly successful in marketing itself in the region, "said Bryan Ma, IDC in the Wall Street Journal.

On the mobile phone market Apple's share is even smaller with only 0.6 percent in the second quarter of this year. A figure that could grow significantly thanks to a new agreement with the Chinese mobile operator China Unicom.

The agreement with China Unicom means that the iPhone will be sold on the world's largest market for mobile phones later this year.

Apple's focus has so far been on the U.S. and Europe. The company shipped 53 percent of their PCs in the U.S. market during the second quarter of this year. Europe represented 24 percent of all sales, and Asia accounted for only 14 percent.

- For a company that has a relatively narrow product line, it is admirable that it succeeded in creating such a demand and loyalty here in Asia, said Bryan Ma on to the Wall Street Journal.

Do you think Apple have a chance of stealing some of that portable goodness from PSP and DS with their iPhone?
On a funnier note. Microsoft is ranked as the number one company to be seen as to have a long term vision, while being in last place in Japan. And Sony is trailing in EU/US and talked alot about their 10 year plan a while ago. Do you think this is a common thing among trailing companies? :D
