Never mind, just read the article again and I get the hot Coffee VS Manhant 2 hack thing. The rendered images weren't modified in Hot Coffee, just had to modify the game to get there I guess. With Manhunt 2 you have to modify the actual rendered image of the game.
the difference at least makes sense now.
