Back in the day, Apex digital released a DVD player for $99 (while Sony was charging $300 to $500 for DVD players) and quickly became the #1 DVD player manufacturer in the world. It is likely that if you could produce an HD-DVD player at a low enough price that people who had very little interest in HD content and owned an HDTV would likely buy the player
