Half world would, I mean come on, there were supposed to be nuclear weapons in Iraq and half the damn world went to war against them. Russia don't exactly have a lot of people on their side, it would be extremely stupid to make a random attack on eastern Europe. They are not a popular country.

However, we don't want war, we want peace. And I thinks it's disgusting that the second a 'liberal' takes the chance to offer the olive branch of peace to Russia and likely repair frayed relations and the neo-cons just come out with, quite frankly, sleazy attacks. Do these people not want peace with Russia or something. Obama has made a great gesture to Russia and if Russia act accordingly I think Obama would have made the world a slightly nicer place to live, but a small percentage of people want to make a bad issue out of something that the vast majority see as positive.

What about the fact America now has soured relations with the countries (Poland, Czech Republic) that wanted to host the shield? They've already drawn the ire of Russia for hosting such a shield, and now we're saying 'We care about the bigger guy a whole lot more' - Should we really hang our allies out to dry? We're now in a lose-lose situation: We're placating a dictatorship, and alienating the exact people that are trying to get away from that kind of horrible near-dictatorship.

Plus, we did this on the 70th anniversary of the Soviets taking over Poland. Great way to make 'em fearful, eh?

Poland and Czech republic will never stay angry at the USA or ever pose a threat to your security, in a year they would have completely forgot about it and be back to being allies. Russia however needs to have relations with you guys repaired, let's face it you have a bad history together, Obama offers an olive branch and people use it (rather tenuously) as something against him. If the USA improve relations with Russia perhaps you would be the ones to rub off on them and improve their "dictatorship" government.

I mean look, Russia are already much much happier now, this olive branch Obama has offered them has really worked, the Russians and Europe are loving it. Did you know that this morning NATO offered to accept Russia partly as a consequence of this action? Perhaps it is time to extended ourselves to them with these gestures, let's take the risk and hopefully they will reciprocate. Peace with Russia is what the world wants and I'm a lot more sure that eastern Europe would rather have peaceful neighbours than hostile neighbours they have to defend against.
