I wonder do the people who invested in it expect it to be profitable?
I can see two mindsets that would invest in something like Heavy Rain:
-Interactive movies is a way to bridge movies to gaming, thus potentially being something more mainstream than the typical game
or
-I don't think this will make money but I'm willing to act as a patron and progress game art
I think the former would be mistaken, but while the latter is not my cup of tea, it's their money and it happens all the time in writing, painting, etc.
