Well what would the game need to have to make it a sequel anyways? 100 exercises?

Wii Sports Resort is just beginning to increase HW sales (Iwata said it would take 6-8 weeks). Wii sales remained flat this week, the seventh week since Wii Sports Resort was released worldwide. We should see HW sales slowly picking up week after week as we head into the holidays.

Of course if a price cut happens it will only accelerate all this, which is probably why Nintendo is considering it.

That's a big lie. The Wii has been going down in sales weekly since the game launched.

Wii is now selling less units than before they released WSR.

Iwata said this at the Financial Q & A in August:

"In September, which people overseas call "back-to-school," people start to pay more attention to home consoles. If we can convey the appeal of Wii Sports Resort to existing customers then, it will surely contribute to the sales of hardware and generate good momentum toward the holiday season. So we feel that Wii Sports Resort will drive hardware sales mainly in Q3 from October to December."

HW sales have been going down since WSR launched, but at launch there was a large hardware boost due to this being released (plus MH3 and Black Wii in Japan). So it's really only down about 9k since July and actually up 5k since May.

And as the quote says, Iwata didn't really expect hardware sales to be driven upward until the third quarter. So if in December Wii is still down 50%, then you can come back here and make me eat crow.
