When did the Japanese really start moving away from home consoles?

@ JGarret , Honestly who knows, itll be just as puzzling as to why NA are now really big on hatchback cars all of a sudden (or at least in my city lol). ..or maybe now Japan really sees this gen's handheld as something more then just a 'kid's toy' and more acceptable to people of all ages and is now the new trend?
