I don't see how you can't make the comparison - used games and piracy both cause the exact same financial loss to developers and publishers, the only differences are that one is considered illegal and the other is not, and also one the industry is actively trying to prevent, but the other it's actually backing off on attempting to prevent. When used games are more of a concern to the industry than piracy, it really shows you how it feels on the issue. :)

NO IT DOES NOT.  Again, a used copy has already 'caused' money to be paid to developers, whereas a pirated copy has not.

The mere fact that no further money goes to developers in the case of used games does not make them equivalent.

Wrong.  I buy the game, dump the DVD's and put up a torrent, or upload it to Rapidshare or whatever.

Money went to the devs, and then they don't see one further cent from all the other people who use this copy of the game, just as the case is with used sales.

exactly, and it's even worse if we're talking about the rental of console games, because console devs don't get money from the renting business, yet each copy is played by dozens of gamers who most likely won't buy the games.

EACH AND EVERY COPY OF A USED OR RENTAL GAME HAS GIVEN MONEY TO DEVELOPERS.  What do you not understand about this concept and how it is different from pirated games, that can have thousands of copies of a game and only one original that developers got paid from?

With used/rental games, only one person at a time owns (or 'controls' in the case of rental) the game and only one console/PC can play it at a time*.  This is different from pirated copies of a game that can have indefinite numbers of people all "owning" and playing the game simultaneously on their own consoles/PCs based on only that one legitimate copy.  It is not the same thing.  I don't know why you are failing to hard at seeing the difference, but I suspect it has to do with legitimizing piracy in your mind (since it's 'not any worse' than renting to you).

*Well, aside from stuff like DS download play, but that's still tied to the cartridge.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.
