I consider hyperbole different from exaggeration.

It was awful. Sophomoric at its best. Mind-numbing. Embarrassing. I hated it.

Incidentally, it's not any better in Japanese.

I can't tell if they sound like some sort of ape or some sort of retarded bird when they're laughing in that version.

Finally listened to this little gem, oh man I wasn't expecting much but when the laugh started I busted out laughing.  But I believe what you're looking for Twes is the Raphus cucullatus aka the dodo bird, there's a reason why they went extinct, when you have a bird that sounds like that around you the first thing you do is kill it.
