What dismal PC sales? PC game sales have been increasing well, even now in the middle of a recession, where Steam is growing around 100% while consoles game sales are declining. Some people believe the PC version of COD4 will reach around 10 millions lifetime (including myself), and there's a guy in the forum that claims he saw an interview for a foreign mag where an Activision dude said the PC version sold over 8 millions a few months ago. COD4 is still selling well, and was in Steam's Weekly Top 10 Sellers a couple of weeks ago. Call of Duty 4 will not ever reach 10 million copies sold lifetime on the PC. There is no proof of it and if Activision said it, please show it to me. I don't doubt that 10 million people are already using it right now....pirated. Please show me links of the PC recorded sales. The Xbox 360 is the only console that has outstanding sales for that game at 7.74 (nearly 8 million) Million copies sold. I think you have the 360 and PC sales mixed up.
Consoles and PC affect each other's sales more than you think. Especially considering the fact that consoles have never been so close to PC gaming than before, and Xbox 360 is much closer to a PC than to the Wii. Hell, even Microsoft believes and admits that PC can affect greatly console sales. Their actions definitely support that, and even an MS European exec said that if they had released Halo 1 at the same time on Xbox and PC in Germany, 80% of the sales would've gone to PC. -Console and PC multiplatform sales do not usually affect one another greatly. -While what you say about Halo might be true (I don't know without a link), it was Microsofts and Bungies intention to create the first Non-PC shooter that could utilize the best of what consoles had to offer, which at the time was the Xboxes power.
Maybe you should think a little. Why do you think some people release the console versions before the PC versions? It's not really that hard to understand.
1. "to be synonymous with the Xbox 360" is such a terrible excuse. Companies only care about profit, and this "synonymity" you speak of is about getting the most profit, because they believe that PC would've taken away a good chunk of the sales. -Should Microsoft leave their console high and dry. They didn't even expect the 360 to be in the position that it is in today. Microsoft realizes that the 360 is a solid investment, despite their vendetta with Sony at the moment. They did want all of their top games whether published by them, in-house or by third parties with exclusivity contracts to be synonymous with the Xbox 360 name. There isn't anything wrong with that. It has already been proven that the majority of PC gamers are too busy pirating games to buy a fresh copy for themselves. You couldn't care less about the 360, which is why you could never understand why Microsoft would want their titles synonymous with the name. 2. Do you want to know how stupid the "console exclusive" term is? After a lot of thought, I actually agree. The term "console exclusive" can be very misleading and you make a great point here. Halo three is not just a console exclusive, because as you said console exclusives excludes PC's. It was exclusive to the rest of the consoles as well as PC, which makes it exclusive, period. This is using your logic though. On consoles the Xbox 360 has exclusives that no other console has themselves. PC may have it, but in the console realm it is still exclusive. This is wy Microsoft calls PC/360 titles PC/360 exclusives. I understand your point Shio...but the question is whether you can understand mine now that I have clarified it?
3. So you fully admit PC sales affect console sales. Yes 4. FFVII isn't exclusive at all. it is exclusive to the PSX on consoles. It is a multiplatform game regarding PC though. 5. The reason there's PC/360 games is because there's money to be made on PC, even if they're late releases of consolized games. No. The reason there are PC /360 exclusive games is because Microsoft acquires PC titles from devs and has them made for the 360 console as well. Microsoft is getting into digital downloads because they haven't been that impressed with PC sales as of late. Modded Xbox 360's are starting to get on their nerves as well. This is why they ban the hell out of people who mod or steal games now.
