The reason the Slim didn't move software is simple: most of the first week's sales were from previous PS3 owners trading up to the latest-and-greatest. They already have the games they want, and so they didn't need to buy more.
This is not to say that the entire boost is from such trade-ups: the software sales did indeed go up about 20% over the usual growth curve, and that likely reflects the new customers.
Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.
