To tell the truth the podcasts seem to be the best idea. The problem with live im chat would be you being spammed with numourous questions during a live feed.
Of course you would need to choose members for these sessions where, let's say, three members would be "hosts" and two other would be normal vgc users that are picked out by the aforementioned three every month. This would be based on some lottery based method or by simple majority decision.
Questions could be submitted throughout the whole month to some kind of special message box for the hosts.
Okay so the idea isn't maybe very creative, since it's practically what ign does, but for something like this it's better not to try and improve a formula that already works quite well.
