Do you think that 2D and 3D Mario platformers are different kinds of games?

The 3d element adds a lot, but both are a lot of fun.

If i had to choose I'd say I enjoy the 3d versions better (Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Galaxy) but the 2d games (Super Mario Brothers, super mario brothers 3 and super mario world) where also extremely fun, just not quite as much.

Super Mario Brothers 2 was fun (americas), but it's not comparable to the others in any way really and was substandard to the others, but we all know why that is!

Super mario brothers 2, the lost levels, is comparable to super mario broths, except it's not fun at all. it's a torturous experience!
