| S.T.A.G.E. said: I may not have played Mass Effect on PC, but I have experience playing PC/360/Xbox multiplats and this is what I've noticed. 1. PC emphasizes graphics and light quality, while the 360 or Xbox focus on immersion and shadow play. Take Dead Space for instance, I wasn't freaked out at all when playing the PC version. I was more in awe of how crisp the game looked; however in the 360 version because of all the shadow play freaked me out when creatures appeared out of nowhere and the freaky sounds started. The PS3 version has much better use of shadow play on than 360 (based on the PS3's technology, which can also be found in GTA IV), so those who bought it on that must've had a good time as well. I prefered the 360 version of GTA because of the controller and quality of light and shadow that the PS3 just couldn't give. Not to mention the extra DLC. This is more dependent on your own PC hardware, in particular your graphics card, and how you personally have optimised the graphics, effects, brightness, contrast etc. on your PC. This is one of the big plusses and negatives of PC gaming. YOU have to optimise your own experience, but if you spend the time trying to optimise for your own personal tastes then you can have the superior experience. However, you have to spend time doing it when you could be playing. 2. PC games feel like I'm dragging around a drone with a mouse in a point and click manner with third person games such as Dead Space. Xbox 360 controllers aren't exactly the pinnacle of the feeling, but I get rumble and I recieved fluid movement. I guess thats why PC guys love to rip PC games and use the 360 controller for some of the games (I've seen it). Yep, you have the choice of keyboard and mouse or 360 controller thanks to MS. 3. PC games like Street Fighter IV that are ripped by PC guys tend to have major glitches and slowdowns in normal matches. I have never experienced this on my consoles. I've played it at a friends house and it isn't that great on PC. It's something, but there is no PSN or Xbox Live, no trophies or Achievements. Can't comment on Street Fighter IV on PC personally (or on consoles actually), but Games for Windows Live and Steam both now sport acheivements. 4. PC games have to be downloaded to the PC large amounts of the time and 360 versions don't. We do still use optical disks as well as Steam and other download services ya know! This is really down to personal preference as downloading and installing to the HDD means quicker loading. Even though you now can on 360, its still only a cheap 5400RPM drive compared to the average 7200 RPM drives on PC. 5. Halo was prettier on the PC, but ran like shit on the PC. It was much better on the Xbox and felt more human. I felt like I was almost playing an Unreal Tournament game instead of a bungie title. This isn't the best game to be comparing console vs PC version as it was designed specifically with control limitations of console controller in mind. I'm not really sure though what you mean with "ran like shit". Its the same game but with more accurate controls. Are you saying you could just play it like an arcade style game because of the accurate controls scheme? 6. Console gamers may sit down like PC gamers, but they sit down in more comfortable positions where they can look back and appreciate the entertainment value for what it is. As I think Shio already mentioned you can connect your PC to an HDTV and sit on the couch and enjoy your games in the same way console gamers do. I personally get more engrossed in a game on PC as I'm much nearer the screen (as well as the improved graphics) and have a much greater appreciation of the game I'm playing. This is all down to preference. |
