I think it's shocking but useful. Hitler was a mass murderer, AIDS kills masses of people. I don't see, why we should be offended as Germans by this fact. It's our history, we are about the only country in the world, which really did clear the dark parts of it.
Btt.: Nothing could be more shocking if you have unprotected sex and suddenly think of Hitler.
