Accurately explain your reasoning. NES started a multitude of AAA game franchises and saved gaming from its downspiral. PS2 had... a DVD player. And a multitude of AAA games. By cancelling the games out, which do you think is more important, a DVD drive, or saving gaming from its eternal tailspin of doom?

That's why I believe it deserves number 2, sure it revived the video game industry and I thank it for that, but the PS2 widen the user base by so much. The way nintendo was pushing video games was not the direction I'd want it to be right now, they were clinging to the kids to much. The PS2 brought in a more serious mature gamers, and like you said had an onslaught of new AAA games (seriously how many more Mario games can a person play till they go insane).
I never really cared for the DVD player, I maybe used it a dozen times.
