I thought Mario Bros was competative.

 

Just like the new game it could be played either way.

 

Some of my favorite moments playing that game were when the friend I played it with all the time and I started playing it one way, but ended up playing another (either we were co-oping and someone screwed up, resulting in the alliance disintigrating, or we were competitive, but then were both fighting so hard to stay alive that we forgot we were suppose to be after each other).
