I like how you put the entire Playstation umbrella and not just the PS3 which will of course lose more money hand over fist as Sony are still losing money on each sold.


I don't think it's that big of a deal when the division is back to being profitable. The hardware is priced too cheaply (for an ordinary company), so Sony will loose some cash on that. But on the other hand PS3 owners buy a lot of software, according to a recent article about 7.9 games on average at that point. So despite the huge XBox 360 headstart (more average months of ownership translates into higher attach rate) that's about on par.

They make money on software, games and other divisions benefit from additional Blu-Ray movie sales and potential interests to upgrade towards a HDTV and/or surround sound.
