I think you misinterpreted it. They USED to report their stock from warehouses as sold, now it's just the amount actually sold to retailers.

No, I'm not. I didn't say that all units in their warehouses are sold. But some of them could be as long as they were recorded as a sale. A sold unit could be anywhere, the store shelf, retailer warehouse, shipping container, Sony warehouse, anywhere along the supply chain.

Well, yea, it's not like they meet up in the parking lot of the store and swap items. The process can take a while, but won't have a large effect on the overall number.
