You sound like those awful people who've never touched a game and dismiss everyone who has as a person with no life and no friends who plays 20 hours a day and never leaves the house. What is music? Listening to a sound. What is a movie? Watching a video and listening to a sound. What is a game? Controlling something, watching a video, and listening to the sound. Why, when you add control, does it suddenly become nerdy? It's easy to have a casual chat about gaming, it happens in IM all the time. And I don't think you can save yourself from nerd status. You're on a video game forum (a sales forum no less), you own many games, and you enjoy talking about them. To a "normal" person, you would be a nerd. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if that is the definition of "nerd" you are using. I am a nerd, many of my friends are nerds, many of my friends are not nerds, and do not think badly of me for being a nerd. I would hate to have no real friends to talk about gaming with. It's not all we talk about, of course, but then it's not all we talk about in VGC IM either. It is usually gaming related, seeing as this is a gaming site, but it can be different. Movies, food, politics, even sex on occasion. And the IM is rarely moderated, unless you are being a prick and spamming the N word or something. |
How can I even argue against that? I can't debate against any of your points but in general, and I don't know why, gaming enthusiasts are a more goofy bunch of people than the norm. I don't know why it is, there is no theory or logic behind it, they just are. I think all this hate for game extremists roots back to my highschool years (a year or two ago), I swear, I was in the top class....surrounded by a bunch of videogame fanatics. I had to sit beside them in class where they made stupid noises and talked about PS vs Xbox all day, Lord, they even based their IT coursework on videogames at times. This is where I really thought, 'Get a life you dweebs'. Also, talking about games in front of girls = you're not getting with them.
So yea, too many videogames are bad, and I don't like videogame addicts or people who just talk about them all day long (I bet, or I know there is a select few in this site). I'm clearly not tarring everybody on this site as a geek because obviously I'm on this site right now, and I like it (mainly the sales side). I'm just saying, I find videgames get discussed too much on places like this and that some people take them too far and seriously, arguing over consoles for example, I don't understand why people do this. Do people argue over McDonalds and Burger King constantly, or U2 and Kasabian? No.
So, in second conclusion, I get tarred with enough game talk to go in the IM and get tarred by more. I like games and I play them maybe half an hour a day on average (or if there's a new release then like 5 hours on a Sunday, lol), but I still think there are too many obsessed people.
Enjoy games people, they are fun and relaxing and good for playing with friends, but make sure to balance them with other things lol, don't become like the people in my highschool class!
