Spend $ to go on an IM service and talk to strangers about videogames?
No thanks, I more of a 'go on MSN and talk to mates I know about normal stuff kinda guy'

Why own money if not to spend it?

And if you only want to talk to your friends, why join a forum? And are you implying that video games aren't normal?

The subjects in the IM aren't always about gaming, anyway.

Sense of acomplishement maybe?

I am here to discuss sales data, I like business, that's why I'm here.

And chatting about gaming in an IM service is certainly not normal.

Could you give three examples of 'normal' topics?

Most people I know on services like MSN talk about things like sport, movies, music, going out (organising things), dates, girls, food, work, business, gossip, TV.

Yes. Well there's no difference between talking about films, TV, sport, music and talking about games. It's all a bit nerdy.

Talking about work is usually quite sad as most jobs on this planet are pointless/immoral/dull.

Gossip is for weird people that don't have a life/are massively insecure/jealous and so need to talk about other people.

Business: again, depends on what it is. It's certainly not any more normal than talking about games.

Yes.
