Except America isn't a mob rule anarchist state. It's a constitutional democracy, which ensures the rights of minorities, so the fact that the majority of people don't support their rights is irrelevant.
As for the sign thing. I don't think it's necessary, but maybe it's not such a bad idea. If I were going to deny service to a group of people, I sure wouldn't want them coming in to the store and have to confront them face to face.
