Found an old article about PS2 sales when the PS2 was reduced from $299 to $199.   This was mid May 2002. At that point the PS3 was on the market 2 years in Japan and 1.5 years in US and Europe.

Sony so far has shipped 30 million PlayStation 2 units worldwide and 7.9 million in the U.S.

A. Have a link? And I think you meant the PS2 was on the market for 2 years, not the PS3.

B. Ok, so what are we getting at here? If anything, that proves more of my point, the PS3 has been on the market for nearly three years and STILL hasn't seen anywhere near 30mill units shipped/sold.

The point is you are equating the PS3 price reduction to $299 to give the same results as the PS2 reduction to $199.  Not to mention PS2 was already established as the winner of the previous generation before the price reduction to $199.99.  The third parties were all ready dedicated to the PS2 as the lead console and more than willing to make PS2 exclusives with little encouragement.    The PS3 will never be in this position.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
